Diagnostic Intake

Use this file to start or resume the QEM-QEC learning workflow. It is designed to collect learner evidence quickly, then route to the right lesson or assessment.

Current recommendation: start with Mode A unless the learner explicitly asks for a placement test.

Follow session-protocol.md when grading answers or updating progress files. Grade Mode A with diagnostic-intake-key.md.

Mode A - Fresh-Start Foundation Session

Use this when continuing from the current recorded state.

Answer these without looking at the lessons. Short answers are fine.

  1. In GF(2), why is \(1+1=0\), and why does that matter for parity checks?
  2. For a parity-check row \(h\), what does \(h c^T=0\) mean?
  3. In the \([7,4,3]\) Hamming code, what information does a single-bit-error syndrome give you?
  4. What is the difference between a generator matrix and a parity-check matrix?
  5. In one sentence, why does the Conjecture 3 course begin with classical linear codes rather than QLDPC codes directly?
  6. Which part feels least automatic: GF(2) arithmetic, syndrome calculation, matrix row spaces, or research-map motivation?

Routing:

Use diagnostic-intake-key.md for expected answers and the exact routing table.

Mode B - Foundation Placement Test

Use this only if the learner wants to skip the foundation course.

Answer the 10 prompts in the foundation assessment rubric. Codex should grade against that rubric and record the score in:

Passing score: at least 16/20, with no 0 on required gate questions.

Mode C - Frontier Alignment Test

Use this only after the foundation gate is passed.

Answer the 10 prompts in the frontier assessment rubric. Codex should grade against that rubric and record the score in:

Passing score: at least 16/20, with no 0 on questions 1, 3, 5, or 10.

Answer Format For Chat

When answering in chat, use this compact format:

1
2
3
4
5
6
7
Mode: A
1. ...
2. ...
3. ...
4. ...
5. ...
6. ...

Codex should then grade only the relevant mode, update the progress files only after the learner confirms the grading, and continue with the next lesson.
